A Family-Owned Lumber Yard in Fort Recovery, Ohio Since 1915
Fort Recovery Lumber Co., Inc. has proudly served Fort Recovery and the surrounding communities for more than a century. Founded in June 1915, we have remained a family-owned lumber yard built on trusted relationships, quality materials, and dependable service.
Our History
Fort Recovery Lumber was originally established on Broadway Street in Fort Recovery, Ohio. The company was founded by Louis Moeller, who moved to Fort Recovery from Minster after managing the Minster Lumber Company for eight years.
Several years later, Peter VanderBosch joined the company as Vice President and part owner. Louis Moeller remained President and manager until his passing in June of 1954.
William Knapke and Albert Bubp were employed in the early 1930s. Following Mr. Moeller’s death, William Knapke became President and Albert Bubp was named Secretary-Treasurer. Mr. Bubp served the company until his passing in 1968.
Generations of Family Leadership
In the 1960s, James Bubp and David Bubp, sons of Albert Bubp, joined the company. Richard Knapke, son of William Knapke, also became part of the business. After the passing of William and Richard Knapke, James and David Bubp became the primary officeholders.
Years later, Brian Bubp, son of James Bubp, and Chris Moeller, son-in-law of David Bubp, joined the company. In 2004, James and David retired, leaving Brian and Chris as the current owners. Today, they continue the family tradition that began more than 100 years ago.
Overcoming Challenges & Growing Stronger
On January 12, 1949, a fire of unknown origin destroyed the original Broadway Street building. Although the loss was significant, rebuilding began shortly after the fire and business resumed. This event became a defining moment in the company’s history and reinforced the determination to continue serving the community.
In 1978, the business relocated to its current location at 2550 Wabash Road to allow for expansion. At this site, Fort Recovery Lumber constructed multiple storage buildings, a shop, office space, and a large showroom. Continued growth has allowed the company to better serve customers throughout the region.
