Fort Recovery Lumber Co., Inc. was organized in Fort Recovery, Ohio at a location on Broadway Street. The franchise was incorporated in June 1915. Louis Moeller, who moved to Fort Recovery from Minster, was president and manager of the company. He had managed the Minster Lumber Company previously for eight years.

Peter VadenBosch joined the company as Vice-President several years later and was part owner until 1951. Mr. VanderBosch was a brother-in-law of Mr. Moeller. Louis Moeller remained President and manager of the company until his death in June 1954.

William Knapke and Albert Bubp were employed in the early 1930s. After the death of Louis Moeller, the presidency was voted to William Knapke and Albert Bubp was made Secretary-Treasurer. Mr. Bubp passed away in 1968.

James Bubp and David Bubp, sons of Albert Bubp, joined the lumber company in the 1960s. Richard Knapke, son of William Knapke, joined the company also. When Richard and William passed, James and David became the officeholders in the company. During this time, Brian Bubp, son of James Bubp, and Chris Moeller, son-in-law of David, joined the company. Many years later, James and David retired leaving Chris and Brian to become the new and current officeholders in 2004.

On January 12, 1949, a fire of unknown origin destroyed the building on Broadway Street. The fire was discovered about 8:30 on the evening of January 11th and the fire was extinguished. Approximately at 5:00 the next morning, January 12, the building was burning again and only the safe as saved at this time. The safe was composed of walls with 24″ cement surrounding it and the contents were not damaged. Shortly after the fire, reconstruction was started and business was resumed.

The original building on Broadway street was moved in 1978. Due to a need for expansion, the company moved to its present location at 2550 Wabash Road. At this site, they built 7 storage buildings, a shop, an office, and a large showroom. Since then, Fort Recovery Lumber has expanded even more to better suit the customers. We are proud to be family owned and operated for 100+ years.
